Liberia Independence Day Cup — Team Uganda

On Sunday 26 July 2026, Team Uganda travelled to Ajou University Soccer Field in Suwon for the Liberia Independence Day Cup (LIDC) 2026, held as part of the Liberian community’s Independence Day celebrations and bringing African communities in South Korea together under the shared values of friendship, unity and sportsmanship.

Under the leadership of Coach Isma Uptop and Coach Sadat Zimula, Team Uganda won all three of its group matches to finish the day unbeaten.

• Uganda 2 – 1 Ghana
• Uganda 2 – 0 Guinea
• Uganda 1 – 0 Zimbabwe

Special recognition goes to Raymond Mukasa, Team Uganda’s standout performer, who led the attack and scored the majority of the team’s goals across the tournament. A worthy mention also goes to our youngest player, aged just 15, whose confidence and composure throughout the day were a reminder of why nurturing the next generation of Ugandan football talent in South Korea matters.

Thanks go to Captain Jeffrey Lumu for leading the team on and off the field, to the tournament organising committee led by Senior Musa, and to the welfare team — Josephine Nakitende (General Secretary), Juanita Ariella Kwagala Murungi, Stella, Rita and Queen — whose work kept the squad looked after all day. Above all, thanks to every player who represented Uganda with commitment, discipline and pride.

During the Uganda–Guinea match, a player from Team Guinea sustained a serious injury. In line with the message from the Liberian Independence Day Celebration Committee, we ask the Ugandan community to join the wider African community in praying for his full and speedy recovery, and to extend messages of encouragement to our Guinean brothers. Sport reminds us that while we compete on the field, we remain one African family beyond it.
