Our community story: from 2010 to USKA
Ugandans have been organising in South Korea since 2010 — first as a community that wanted goodwill, harmony, unity and cooperation among people who were studying, working and raising families far from home. That organising is our history. It is not the legal founding date of the association as it is registered today.
What came before
In 2017 a predecessor group was registered at the Yongsan District Tax Office as Uganda Community in South Korea (UCISK), registration number 224-82-69936. That name and number are obsolete. They belong in the story of how we got here, not on a letterhead or a bank slip now.
What is current
In 2026 the community re-registered with the Korean Government as a foreigners’ group: Ugandans In South Korea Association (USKA) / 주한 우간다인협회, registration number 315-82-85566. The friendships, regional visits, football and shared meals continue. The legal identity is USKA.
What we still set out to do
- Promote unity, friendship and cooperation among Ugandans in Korea
- Support members’ welfare and wellbeing
- Keep Ugandan culture, heritage and identity visible
- Use sport, entertainment and regional visits to keep people in the same room
- Make space for networking, mentorship and study
- Strengthen honest ties between Uganda and the Republic of Korea
As of 31 March 2026 the association counted 586 registered members (632 including short-term visas). The current Executive Committee was elected at the AGM on 15 February 2026.
