The Executive Committee of the Ugandans in South Korea Association (USKA) met at Shilla Stay Seodaemun (B1 restaurant), Seoul — 76, Chungjeong-ro, Seodaemun-gu, Seoul (신라스테이 서대문 · B1 restaurant area). All Executive members were required to attend.

We were honoured to welcome H.E. Tophace Byagira Kaahwa, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Uganda to Japan, who is also accredited to the Republic of Korea (non-resident), together with Mr David K. of the embassy team.

The meeting was held with the Executive only. Discussion focused on the welfare and practical needs of Ugandans living and working in South Korea, and how the Association and the Mission can work together more closely.

Her Excellency underlined that the Mission is here to support all Ugandans in Korea — regardless of background, region of origin, or political affiliation. Every Ugandan remains a citizen entitled to consular care and a fair hearing from their Embassy.

Among the ways the Uganda Mission (Tokyo, covering Korea) typically assists the diaspora are: passport applications, renewals and replacements; national identity and related civil documentation guidance; emergency travel documents when a passport is lost or unavailable; and general consular advice for families, students and workers. Exact requirements and fees always follow current Embassy instructions — members should confirm before travelling or applying.

The Ambassador and Mr David K. also indicated that they plan to return to Korea in the summer. That visit is intended to deliver, in person, services and follow-ups that the community has often had to request by mail or remotely — so more members can complete documents and consultations face to face.

At this meeting the Executive presented USKA’s Association Introduction and 2026 Snapshot — a briefing pack covering who we are, Korean registration (주한 우간다인협회 · 315-82-85566), membership, community statistics, the 2026 programme, and areas for collaboration with the Mission (including the community’s hope for a resident embassy in Korea). Download it under Documents (USKA Introduction & 2026 Snapshot). Official contact: [email protected].

USKA thanks Her Excellency and the embassy delegation for making time for the Executive, and for the clear message of unity and service. We will keep the community updated when summer consular outreach dates are confirmed.
